Crimes Against Persons

The Crimes Against Persons Unit commonly referred to as “CAPERS,” is an investigative unit within the department. The unit specializes in crimes committed against individuals. The following offenses are investigated by detectives assigned to CAPERS:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Assault
  • Cruelty to Animals
  • Harassment
  • Kidnapping
  • Murder
  • Police Use of Deadly Force
  • Suicide
  • Suspicious Death Investigations
  • Unattended Death Investigations and a host of other crimes

This unit responds to scenes of major incidents involving a crime against persons 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
