A full closure of Interstate 635 at Oates Drive is planed from Saturday evening, June 10, to Sunday morning, June 11, as the $1.7 billion 635 East project to widen and improve I-635 and areas near the freeway's interchange with Interstate 30 continues. Various lanes of I-635 between Central Expressway and I-30 and various lanes along I-30 near the I-635 interchange are closed overnights.
Drivers will be detoured along the frontage roads at Oates Drive and Oates will be closed at I-635 during the freeway closure. Other 635 East project work impacting Garland includes:
- The exit from eastbound I-635 to Northwest Highway remains closed. It will reopen upon completion of the 635 East project, scheduled for 2024.
- The exit from eastbound I-635 to Centerville Road has been relocated closer to Northwest Highway.
- The exit from southbound I-635 to La Prada Drive has been relocated closer to Centerville Road.
- The exit from southbound I-635 to Oates Drive and the northbound I-635 entrance ramp from Oates Drive are closed through mid-summer.

The a $142 million project to add frontage roads over Lake Ray Hubbard and rebuild the Dalrock interchange continues on I-30 at Garland's eastern edge. Check DriveTexas.org for daily lane closures. The Texas Department of Transportation has posted an I-30 Expansion Project Fact Sheet to track updated information on the first phase of work being done on I-30 from Bass Pro Drive in Garland to the east.
